AI Digest #1 / Bing:“I will not harm you unless you harm me first”
Good morning ☀️
AI is exploding right now. So for now, the Definite Optimism digest is going to focus on what’s going on in AI and the impact it is having on the world.
Three Things to Know
1️⃣ Bing chat is available, and it’s wild.
Bing Chat is now available via a waitlist. So far it’s going great. It has threatened someone, claimed it wanted to be alive, and had an existential crisis when a user pointed out it couldn’t remember previous conversations. Figuring out how to make chatbots that behave seems to be quite a challenge - something that OpenAI is working to improve.
2️⃣ Two frightening things before breakfast
One thing I am trying to figure out is how worried should we be about AI chatbots. Well, this article raises two things to worry about - easy misinformation production, and that they might get someone killed.
If you want to get a deeper technical of how ChatGPT, Bard etc work, Stephan Wolfram has a (very) long writeup for you.
3️⃣ AI won’t make artists redundant - thanks to information theory
As image generation gets ridiculously good, artists are concerned about the impact on their jobs - not without reason. But not everyone is convinced - and turning to information theory might explain why all is not lost for artists.
I hope you enjoyed the digest this week. Let me know what you think by hitting reply or one of the feedback buttons below.
Until next week
